The Video Diary: Paddy Grows a Beard for Over 3 Months
Every man and every beard is individual. While some find it super easy to grow a beard, for others it takes longer. So don't be discouraged if it doesn't work out right away. Growth is influenced by many different factors, just see what works for you! Your beard growth, length and density are genetically determined, depend on your testosterone level and your lifestyle. With a little patience and the right care, you will soon see results!
What to consider when growing a beard
Just let it grow and that's it! Oh, how nice it would be if it were that quick and easy, right?
Step 1: Let it grow
As they say, the first step is always the hardest – for some more, for others less!
Type A has very slow beard growth and can go several days without shaving without looking bearded.
Type B, on the other hand, has to shave at least every 1-2 days and has more or less regular beard growth, and
Type C would have to shave twice a day to contend with his dense beard growth.
Depending on which type you are, different beard styles are advisable for you. For Type A, beard styles such as a goatee, a Henriquatre or Van Dyke beard, or the classic mustache are usually suitable. For Types B and C, however, beard styles such as the stubble beard or the full beard in various lengths are also an option.
No matter what type you are and what beard style you're aiming for: If you're starting from scratch, the rule is: just let it grow! Gaps can appear as your hair will probably grow at different rates. Don't let that discourage you! Pay particular attention to proper care during this transition phase: wash your beard regularly with beard shampoo to remove dirt, old skin flakes, and bacteria. Condition your beard hair and the skin underneath daily with beard oil to prevent itching; this can be quite uncomfortable.
Step 2: Halfway through
The first phase is finally over! Now you can reach for your beard trimmer and bring your hair to a uniform length with one of the attachments. Here you can decide for yourself how long you want to trim your beard. Don't know how? We've got you covered! We'll explain here how you can trim your beard best yourself - or you can treat yourself to an appointment with your trusted barber. Our recommendation in Hamburg: the Herrengut Barbershops.
Step 3: Keep it fresh
Now the fun begins! It is sufficient to wash your beard daily with water and use beard shampoo every two to three days. Depending on the length and density, you should comb your beard daily to keep it looking tidy. Our wooden beard comb is particularly suitable for this. In addition, a beard brush can help to distribute the skin sebum in the beard and thus supply it with fat. A little tip: Regular brushing stimulates blood circulation, which in turn provides optimal growth conditions for the hair and also helps to remove dead skin particles from the beard.
Regularly moisturize your skin and beard hair. For example, with a moisturizer, 2-in-1 face & beard cream or a beard oil. This will prevent skin irritations and itching. Now regularly trim or shave your contours and length so that all hairs grow evenly and your beard looks really smart. Don't know which beard style is right for you? FAQs
Am I really not allowed to shave at all during the growth phase?
Yes and no. Keep your hands off the areas where you want to have a beard later. However, the beard often grows in places where you don't want it to. These include the cheek and larynx areas. Just because you are in a phase where your beard should only grow for now, it doesn't mean that you can't occasionally use a razor or straight razor. Take a look at "How to shave your beard properly".
Can I accelerate my beard growth?
Again, yes and no. As you know, beard growth depends on many factors. Do you eat beard-optimized, always fall asleep before 10:00 p.m. and exercise regularly? Then you could try a beard oil with castor oil, for example. Castor oil is said to stimulate and accelerate beard growth, so just give it a try! This is not a guarantee, but it has helped some people. Do you want more tips? Then we have something else for you: Accelerate beard growth
Can I also use a normal shampoo for my beard?
The sebum in your skin is important for your beard hair to keep it well-groomed. If you use a conventional shampoo instead of beard shampoo, you would completely degrease it and dry out your skin considerably.
Does my beard grow faster the more often I shave?
Unfortunately not. The idea that your beard grows faster if you shave often is a misconception. Your hair grows an average of 0.3 - 0.5 mm per day, and this will not increase or decrease with frequent shaving.
