beard care tips, beard care routine

Beard Shampoo

Conventional shampoos would degrease your beard hair too much. This would leave your beard dry and unruly after washing. A beard shampoo is specially developed for the structure of your beard hair and has a strong re-fattening effect. It cleans your beard and also moisturizes the skin underneath the beard.
In addition to liquid beard soap, there is also solid beard soap, which even saves you packaging – it doesn't get any better than that.

Beard Oil

Beard oil nourishes both the beard hair and the skin underneath the beard. This not only prevents itching and dandruff, but also makes your beard pleasantly soft and gives it a healthy shine.

Beard Brush or Beard Comb

With a beard brush, you can detangle your beard and bring it into shape. This makes stray beard hairs a thing of the past. In addition, using it makes your beard hair noticeably softer and influences the growth direction of your beard.
A beard comb is great for longer beards. The wooden comb frees your beard from knots and shapes it. Additionally, it can be optimally used for the even distribution of beard oil.

Beard Trimmer

A beard trimmer with various attachments is suitable not only for trimming short to medium-length beards but also for perfect beard contours.

Beard Wax

Beard wax shapes your beard and provides a light hold. In addition, aloe vera and castor oil give your beard an extra dose of care.

How to care for your beard in 5 steps

Whether it's a full beard, a 3-day beard, or a mustache – however you want to wear your beard, proper beard care is essential. If you stick to your beard care routine, nothing will stand in the way of a smooth beard.

#1: Wash your beard with beard shampoo

No matter what beard style you wear, your beard needs to be washed daily. It's best to use lukewarm water and beard shampoo about every three days. The sebum in your skin is important for your beard hair to keep it healthy.

Why use a special beard shampoo?

Normal hair shampoo can completely degrease your beard hair and severely dry out the skin underneath. Beard shampoo, on the other hand, is tailored to the structure of your beard hair and has a moisturizing effect. It not only cleans effectively but also provides the skin under your beard with an extra portion of moisture.

#2: Let your beard air dry

Why is air drying better than rubbing?
After washing, it's best to let your beard air dry. If you rub it too hard with a towel, the beard hairs can break or split. Gentle air drying protects the hair structure, prevents frizz, and ensures your beard stays healthy and smooth. If you're in a hurry, gently pat your beard dry with a towel – without rubbing!

#3: Condition your beard with beard oil

The next beard care essential is beard oil or beard softener. These products not only make your beard wonderfully soft but also care for the skin underneath. Contained oils such as argan oil and jojoba oil nourish the beard hairs, moisturize, and give your beard a pleasant shine. They reduce itching and prevent dandruff. Castor oil also stimulates beard growth and makes the beard hairs even softer.

#4: Comb, style and shape your beard

Your beard is clean and shiny; now all that's missing is the final touch. Depending on its length and density, you should comb your beard daily to keep it looking neat. A beard brush can help distribute the skin's sebum throughout the beard and nourish the hair with natural oils.

For longer beards, a wooden beard comb may be more suitable as it glides through dense hair more easily. Regular brushing and combing stimulate blood circulation and thus promote beard growth.

Style your beard with beard wax

After the beard has been brushed and shaped, you can tame unruly hairs with beard wax. Make sure the products contain nourishing ingredients such as coconut oil, aloe vera, or shea butter – this way, your beard will not only stay in shape but also remain well-groomed.

Application of beard wax

Rub a pea-sized amount of wax between your fingertips and work it evenly into your beard. Finally, comb it into shape with a beard comb and smooth it with your palms.

#5: Trim and cut your beard

Bring your beard to a uniform length with a beard trimmer. Trim your beard hairs and/or shave your contours regularly so that all hairs grow evenly and your beard looks really neat. We have explained here how to properly trim and cut your beard: Trimming and cutting your beard. You can easily cut longer beard hairs with beard scissors.

The Right Skincare Under Your Beard

Many beard wearers focus entirely on caring for their beard hair – but what is often forgotten is the skin underneath. Without proper care, the skin under the beard can quickly dry out, leading to flaking, tightness, and even skin irritation. This not only looks unattractive but also feels uncomfortable.

Especially in the first few weeks of beard growth, it can itch a lot. The reason? The skin is not sufficiently moisturized, and dead skin cells accumulate. With the right products – such as a nourishing beard oil that moisturizes the skin, or a gentle exfoliant that removes dead skin flakes – you can effectively prevent itching.

FAQs

How often should I wash my beard?

We recommend rinsing your beard with just water morning and evening – that keeps it fresh. Use beard shampoo 2-3 times a week; that's perfectly sufficient! Daily washing would strip your skin of its natural oils and could lead to dry skin and brittle hair. Remember: a little sebum is not your enemy, but your beard's best friend!

How often do I need to care for my beard?

After washing your beard, we recommend moisturizing it with something like your beard oil to keep your beard hairs supple. A dry beard can lead to beard itch. Styling is entirely up to you and depends on your hair structure and beard growth. Over time, you'll surely find a perfect routine.

How do I know which care oils I need?

Trial and error is the best approach. Every beard is different, so it's hard to answer this question generally. Perhaps you've already had good or not-so-good experiences with certain oils and can use that as a guide.

Is beard oil useful?

Yes! Beard oil cares for your beard hairs and the skin underneath your beard. And much more – here are 3 good reasons why you should use beard oil

1. Beard oil makes your beard noticeably softer and gives it a healthy shine.
2. It also prevents itching and flaking.
3. Application is easy: dispense 2-3 pumps into your hands and massage evenly into your beard. Smooth once – and do not rinse. Done!
